About Drumology

DRUMOLOGY is a professional Drum Kit teaching service based in Hertfordshire, providing one-to-one lessons for drummers of all ages & experience. We offer a comprehensive course for learning drum set technique, building from basic hand & foot development, postural techniques, sight reading & rudiment application studies to advanced Drum Kit techniques & the study of the various musical genres.

DRUMOLOGY provides a free assessment to establish the most beneficial start point for the student. From there we provide course material in the form of coaching instructions, exercise charts & drum music scores which are to be used at home for practice between each lesson.

DRUMOLOGY follows the ROCKSCHOOL grade exam programme & uses the ROCKSCHOOL grade books.

As well as Rockschool Drum Grades, Nick has studied at Drumtech (now the BIMM Institute) achieving a Diploma in Drum Performance.

His teaching style brings out the best quality in every student. Whilst providing a structure and discipline to each lesson, he still makes it fun & encourages students to be creative and to develop their improvisation skills, stylistic playing, technique & reading ability.

"I first picked up drum sticks at the age of 10 & since then I have been taught by a variety of teachers of all ages & abilities & in turn I have taught a variety of students of all ages & abilities. This has helped me develop my own technique, combining the best of all the learning & the best of all the teaching"

Lessons are tailored to each individual student using a combination of handouts, worksheets, teaching books & the appropriate Rockschool Grade books. Students are taught all the techniques & sight-reading required to play each of the songs provided in the Rockschool Grade book using the accompanying CD. It is recommended, but not essential for students to sit Grade Exams.

Each student is expected to practice each exercise during the period between lessons. Understanding how to practice the drum set effectively is essential to development & information on “Effective Practice” is provided.

DRUMOLOGY teaches many techniques & styles in addition to those represented in the Rockschool grading system. Furthermore, students are encouraged to play songs they enjoy and in many cases we will create the required drum scores for them to follow.
